"And for God's sake, Sydney, stay off the streets"

During this time in the Melrose Place syndication cycle (namely, the end of the second season) I truly feel for Sydney, the black sheep of the Melrose family. When Michael first left her, she turned to prostitution under the ranks of the Heidi-Fleiss-like Lauren. Then, after blackmailing Michael into marriage by implicating him in Kimberly's death only to discover that Kimberly wasn't really dead thus bringing Michael to leave her a second time, Sydney became a stripper known as "Jungle Jane." However, despite the millions of strip joints in Los Angeles, Billy's bachelor party (thrown by Michael) just happened to take place at Sydney's POE. Once again, everyone laughed at poor Sydney's misfortune. Then Jane (her sister) turned her back on her. Then some nasty prostitutes beat the shit out of her when she tried to get back on the streets. And now Kimberly is tricking her into murdering Michael. It's all so sad, really. And what's even worse is that in three seasons, she'll die on her wedding day (after being dumped by Jake, slapped by Amanda, used by Peter, nearly blown up by Kimberly and brainwashed into joining a cult by Traci Lords). If ever there was a character in the lexicon of pop culture so deserving of our sympathy and compassion, it's Sydney Andrews Mancini Field.
